‘Save Newgrange to Propose M3 Motorway as Alternative to Dublin-Derry Road’
Save Newgrange is objecting to the Slane bypass part of the road, which will run within 500m of the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site. Save Newgrange will also propose an alternative plan; to extend the M3 from Cavan on to Donegal. Currently, the M3 is losing millions of euro a year, which Irish taxpayers are having to pay to private contractors for low traffic use. Continue reading
Funding NI A5 Upgrade and Slane Bypass not a Priority for Labour Party

Meath Chronicle: Survey finds ancient earthworks near Slane bypass route
Meanwhile, the Save Newgrange campaign has brought its fight against the proposed Slane bypass to the North-South Ministerial Council. The group has complained to An Bord Pleanala and the North-South Ministerial Council that the public consultation process for the bypass is in breach of the Belfast Agreement, because the consultation does not extend to Northern Ireland. They say that the road proposal is in breach of EU environmental law, which provides for transboundary consultation, where the project is of a transboundary nature. Continue reading

ESRI economist Dr Edgar Morgenroth warned N2 Slane bypass was waste of taxpayers’ money in 2009
Dr Edgar Morgenroth, Associate Research Professor with the Economic and Social Research Centre (ESRI), believes the Slane bypass is “idiotic”. On 24 April 2009 he wrote an Opinion piece for The Irish Times saying, “Of course, not all planned infrastructure projects were good projects to start with and some should certainly be abandoned. It is remarkable that there are plans to facilitate the avoidance of the toll on the M1 by building a bypass around Slane involving the expensive construction of a bridge over the river Boyne when a simple HGV ban would solve the local traffic problems.
